The historic lookout tower has been destroyed by recent fires that devastated the community.
The tower is a popular feature for the town, which ironically was used to spot fires from the 360 degree view on the top of Mt. Nowa Nowa.
The modern tower still stands but phone and internet communication was affected which left locals unable to receive vital updates on the movement of the fire.
Locals were left to use radio for updates or drive a few kilometers out of town to get communication.
